The demand for clean energy has surged over the past year, and women in rural and urban areas have played a central role in driving the transition toward sustainable cooking solutions. This growing movement marks a pivotal shift in household energy choices, motivated by health concerns, economic opportunities, and a shared sense of environmental responsibility.
According to Dorothy Otieno, founder of Nyalore Impact Limited, more than 10,000 women through women groups and public forums, across various counties, have adopted cleaner cooking technologies over the past year alone.
“We have sold over 5000 safe cooking devices since inception, and reached more than 10,000 women through women’s groups and other platforms,” she adds.

This milestone reflects the tangible impact of ongoing campaigns promoting clean energy adoption, especially among women-led households.
“The campaign we’re running ensures that women understand the importance of clean cooking, not just for their health, but for the well-being of their families,” says Ms Otieno.
“Traditional cooking methods, which often rely on charcoal and firewood, expose women to harmful smoke, leading to respiratory illnesses and reduced productivity.”
Founded in 2016, Nyalore Impact Limited has been a trailblazer in the clean cooking space, empowering women with the tools, knowledge, and support needed to make the shift to cleaner, safer alternatives.

The company manufactures improved biomass cookstoves under the brand Jiko Digi and distributes modern electric cooking appliances such as pressure cookers and induction stoves.
These solutions are tailored to address the unique health, economic, and environmental challenges faced by women and communities across Kenya.
Nyalore’s approach goes beyond product distribution; it fosters community-driven transformation.
Through partnerships with women’s groups, public forums, and collaborative outreach with other organizations, Nyalore has conducted Cooking demonstrations, awareness campaigns, and educational sessions are central to their strategy, helping to break down barriers and build trust at the grassroots level.
“When women lead, communities thrive,” says Ms Otieno.
“By equipping women with clean energy solutions, we’re not only improving individual livelihoods but also building a healthier, more resilient future for generations to come,” she adds.
Her initiative is to ensure that women are not just beneficiaries of sustainable development, they are powerful agents of change.
