Big3Africa’s Energy and Health Writer Pauline Ongaji has won the 2026 Energy of Words International Award following an international competition that attracted 257 entries from 40 countries.
Ongaji received the award at a ceremony in Moscow, Russia, organised by the Global Energy Association.
Her recognition marks an international milestone for the journalist, who joined Big3 Africa in early 2026 and has since contributed to the publication’s coverage of energy and health issues through story ideas and original content.
“Since joining the media organisation, Ongaji has demonstrated an ability to identify compelling story angles, develop ideas and produce content on complex subjects,” said Big3Africa Editorial Director Peter Ngare.
Congratulating her on the award, Ngare said her achievement reflected the dedication, focus and resourcefulness she brings to her work.
“Pauline’s achievement is a proud moment for her, for Big3Africa and for African journalism,” he said.
Ngare noted that reporting on energy and health requires journalists to go beyond writing skills to demonstrate sound judgement, persistence and a willingness to understand complicated issues and their implications for the public.
He said Ongaji’s approach to journalism reflected these qualities, adding that her international recognition affirmed the value of producing stories that inform public understanding and connect audiences with issues affecting their lives.
The award also comes as Big3Africa seeks to strengthen its coverage of issues at the intersection of energy, health, climate change and sustainable development.
Ngare said the organisation remained committed to nurturing journalistic talent and producing reporting that contributes to public understanding.
He congratulated Ongaji on the recognition and expressed confidence in her continued growth as a journalist.
Her award adds to the growing visibility of African journalists working on specialised subjects that have significant implications for public policy, economic development and everyday life.
